5. Mechanical Properties

5.1 Modulus of Elasticity

Youngs's modulus, Modulus of rigidity, and Poisson's ratio are determined by measuring, at room temperature, the velocities of the longitudinal and transverse elastic waves in a well annealed rod of size 100 ~ 150 x 10 x 10 mm.

Young's modulus (E), Modulus of rigidity (G), and Poisson's ratio ( ) are calculated using the following equations. Accuracy is ±1%.

Modulus of rigidity

Bulk Modulus
Poisson's ratio

l : Velocity of longitudinal waves
t : Velocity of transverse waves
: Density
